Ohio City Power Contributes Labor To Local Farming

Saturday, March 23, 2013 was a wonderful, sunny day as a group of five men from St. Herman's Orthodox House Of Hospitality and two Ohio City Power members joined together to help Community Greenhouse Partners kick off the local farming season.

A big thanks goes out to Tim Smith, Executive Director, Community Greenhouse Partners, for welcoming Ohio City Power Friends and giving them the chance to learn more about how community gardens provide for the local neighborhood.

The group especially enjoyed chasing the chickens to get them out of the Ostara House for some vegetable planting!

Jumpstarting Local Crop Production

According to Tim Smith, the Cleveland, Ohio organization is expanding and building new vegetable beds for the upcoming season.

With Ohio City Power's help, Community Greenhouse Partners can get an early start on their plan for a multiple rotation of crops, generating more fresh food to feed a hungry Northeast Ohio.

Healthy Food Choices For The Community

Community Greenhouse Partners has engaged young adults to help in the ongoing development of the former St. George's Lithuanian Church and adjoining property into what now looks like a self-sustaining environment.

Vegetables grown on the property are sold at local farmer's markets and commercial stores in the area, providing more healthy food choices for local consumers.

Ohio City Power is excited to be an ongoing part of local healthy food farming and production!

Thanks again to Tim Smith and see you in April!
